Gut Health and Microbiome for Food Innovators
In this course, you will explore the key concepts needed to apply a microbiota and gut health perspective when developing novel food and beverage products.
Each module is designed to clearly and efficiently explain a foundational concept, helping you understand how food matrices and ingredients interact with the gut microbiome—and why these interactions matter when formulating products that truly work.

What you’ll learn
-
In this session, you’ll cut through common microbiome myths and learn what really matters for gut health.
We explore the limits of microbiome testing, and how ingredient chemistry determines what reaches the colon.
You’ll gain practical insight into fermentation dynamics and how smart ingredient design can support gut health rather than trigger dyscomfort.
-
This session shows what happens when dietary balance is lost—and how to prevent it. You’ll learn how excess sugar, fiber, or novel fats, as well as risky ingredient combinations, can trigger gut distress, dysbiosis, permeability, and inflammation. The focus is on anticipating tolerance issues early and designing food and beverage products that support microbiome resilience rather than challenge it.
-
This session focuses on how to build credible, regulatory-ready evidence for microbiome-targeting foods and ingredients. You’ll gain insights into study models and clinical trial design—then look ahead to the technologies and communication strategies shaping the next generation of precision, microbiome-aware products.
